Our Emergency Department case load comprises a broad mix of medicine from major trauma to primary care across all age groups. Our department is growing, with attendances currently in excess of 52,000 approximately 28% paediatric attendances.

BHS Emergency Department is currently accredited by ACEM for 12 months of advanced training. We are also accredited for paediatric logbook training. The department is also providing support for ED certificate and diploma candidates.

Ballarat Health Services is a major training site for the University of Melbourne and Deakin Rural Clinical Schools. Senior staff are strongly committed to teaching and the professional development of Interns, HMOs and Registrars.

Ballarat offers a superb regional lifestyle with excellent public and private schools, recreational and sporting facilities, shopping, entertainment and cultural pursuits. Country or city living is available within minutes of the hospital and there is easy access to Melbourne (70 minutes).

- A tertiary qualification in nursing.

Commencing from 17 August 2015

Applications are invited from Speech Pathologists for the above position in the Speech Pathology Team of 16 staff. The successful applicant will work with adult clients in both inpatient and outpatient settings served by Ballarat Health Services Speech Pathology, particularly in the sub-acute service setting.

Ballarat Health Services provides Speech Pathology across acute, sub-acute, residential and community programs for patients/clients presenting with a broad range of communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan. Members of the team participate in a wide range of specialist clinical services, project work and research. The service has a strong focus on mentorship and supervision and supports ongoing personal and professional development.

Duties will involve working within a range of teams to further develop services for inpatient and community programs, specifically in Geriatric Evaluation and Management, Community Rehabilitation and for other external services. Specialist clinical skills in the areas of acquired communication and swallowing disorders, Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies, and experience in the supervision of grade 1 staff and students would be highly desirable.

Opportunities exist to gain exposure to and develop competencies in a number of specialty areas such as instrumental assessment of voice and swallowing.

Trainee Dental Assistant
Fixed Term – Part Time
(76 hrs per fortnight) 12 month contract

As part of our Aboriginal Employment Strategy, Ballarat Heath Services (BHS) are inviting applications from interested people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent for a fixed term full-time role as a Trainee Dental Assistant.

The Successful applicant will join our dynamic dental team in the provision of high quality dental services to the local community. This position will be based in our new state of the art clinic in Sebastopol but may be required to work from time to time at one of our other clinics. You will be joining an experienced and dedicated public dental team and have the support of many experienced staff members.

The trainee will assist the Dentist in the provision of direct patient care in accordance with relevant BHS and Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) clinical standards and policies. the trainee will also complete a Certificate III in Dental Assisting.

It is expected that the successful applicant will have:
# Minimum of Year 11 qualifications or equivalent.
# Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and also independently.
# Proven ability to communicate affectively with a variety of people.
# Willingness to undertake continuing personal and professional development.
# Computer skills including: word processing, internet and email.
